There was much hype before the big performance. Voices were warmed up in the cold of the night; creating the sound of many becoming one. In the rooms of Parow High School, these voices, after many practices, were ready to be heard.

On Wednesday the 15 May 2013 the Settlers choir sang compositions excellently put together by Mr. Hugo Smuts at the Tygerberg Eisteddfod. Expectations were especially high, since they were the last to perform on the night. However they did not disappoint, because they achieved the highest percentage of the evening at 94.5%.

The first song performed was a combination of Reach Out and Touch and Measure a Year. The second song, Just the way you are, was sung a capella as in the well-known movie, Pitch Perfect . For many the highlight of the evening was the different “mash-ups” which had a Cape Town theme and feel to it. They made use of props by having the boys wear klopse looking hats and adding fun dance moves throughout every song sung. All was sung on pitch and the solo parts were done superbly.

The Settlers choir once again did the school proud. This fantastic performance would not have been possible without the hard work, dedication and hours put into by Mr Smuts and members of the choir.
